Guten Tag, Berlin!

I will start this post by saying this: I did not love Berlin.  I liked Berlin, but it just didn't give me that crazy, 'think I'm falling in love with this city and need to move here immediately' feeling (PRAGUE! But more on that later...)  However, I did discover that Berlin is a city with a most interesting history and much to offer in terms of the arts and museums.

I spent many of my days in Berlin visiting a handful of its diverse museums.  The Checkpoint Charlie museum was extremely interesting, as it is completely devoted to the history of the Berlin wall.  There were many authentic exhibits, pictures, and video footage, which taught me a lot about this unique time in Berlin's history.  Being the art enthusiast that I am, I was also excited to go to the Gemäldegalerie, which houses one of the world's most impressive collection of European art (13th to 18th century).  Thanks to my AU ID I got in for the student discount and enjoyed a relaxing day of art instead of freezing in the snow.  But out of all the museums I visited, the erotic museum was definitely the most fun and um, interesting (hehe).  Sami, Amy and I emerged experts in the area of eroticism from the various videos, interactive exhibits and information.  While it was probably incredibly inapproriate, we had a good time.

Apart from museum hopping on a near daily basis, I went on a city tour to learn more about the Berlin's dark and intriguing history, including both world wars, the holocaust and the Berlin wall.  Overall, it seemed to be an educational trip.  Inserted of course with lots of good food and Weinmarkt hopping.

As I said before, I didn't love Berlin, which surprised me because during my last trip to Germany I fell in love with Munich and Bavaria.  But I'm still glad I went because I love learning about and experiencing new places, cultures and people.  However, I can't say I was disappointed to leave, because next I went to a little city named Prague :)

Besos,
B
